The Bung Hatta University Bridge Team, represented by students of the Teaching and Education Faculty's Mathematics Education Study Program, won first prize in the 2018 Junior Bridge, Student and Student National Championship. The championship was held by PB GABSI (Joint Indonesian Bridge) at the Golden View Hotel Batam - Riau Islands July 9-15, 2018.
Bung Hatta University sent four of his students: Rafki Rizaldi from the 2013 class, Ulfa Khaira Maulida Aprilia from the 2015 class, and Intan Safitri and Vina Afridela from the 2016 class to take part in the junior category based on age, namely the U-26 Mix pair with Ulfa-Rafki team, pair U-21 daughter[Office1] with the Vina-Intan team. Those are in the category of students took part in Team and MIX matches.
Ulfa Khaira, one of the Bung Hatta University Bridge Teams, said in the match that the junior category had not received a medal. However, for the category of students in the team match who entered the 9th rank and the matched pair managed to win rank 1 or gold medal with the Ulfa-Rafki team.
"This activity is an annual event held by PB GABSI center. Thank God, we can become champions in this national championship. At that time, I could not believe it. I saw the announcement board which said we won and still I asked the committee three times to really ensure we brought home the gold medal," he said.
He also hoped that by obtaining this champion many people would know about Bridge, because Bridge had long been at Bung Hatta University, and many foreigners know about it. Therefore, more people will be interested in playing bridge.
"In addition, also for the juniors to be more enthusiastic in training, they can focus more on bridge without disturbing their academic," he added.
Vice Chancellor III of Bung Hatta University, Dr. Diana Kartika, expressed her appreciation to the Bung Hatta University Bridge Team who won the national championships. So far, there have been many champions, both at the regional level up to the national level. This is a source of pride for Bung Hatta University and will continue to increase.
"In the future there must be regeneration of bridge players and invite all students from various departments who are interested in games that use the ability to think logically and critically in developing their soft skills," he added. (** UBH Ubay-Humas)
